This is my 2nd Tate wall calendar and I have to say that this one did not meet expectations. The colors seem off, too green and dingy, on many of the prints. They may in fact be perfect reproductions, but it's hard to tell from the tiny on-line pictures one has to go on.Product details

Tate Victorian Life Art wall calendar 2016 Art calendar 9781783614288 Books Reviews
It's good to see Victorian artists getting some attention. they have been out of vogue for a long time though the Pre-Raphaelites have made some headway. Most of them painted in an almost photographic realist style just before the camera itself would change painting forever. Yet there were so many of them putting out entirely worthy work that they deserve the attention the Tate has given them. In this case the artists are British (with the exception of the French Tissot, who moved to Britain in 1871) and the subject matter must be Victorian Life, thus ruling out those like Lawrence Alma-Tadena and Albert Joseph Moore who tended toward imagined historical scenes.
Still, you get a good variety of artists here. Wiliam Maw Egley was known for his detail of costume. Tissot, who fled Paris after the Franco-Prussian War, painted fashionable women, again with great detail of clothing. John Spencer Stanhope, from the circle of Rossetti is the Pre-Raphaelite here, more in the figure than the background. John Linnell is one of the more esteemed artists here, a friend and patron of William Blake whose Reapers, noonday Rest look almost as if they were still in the age of Breughel. Henry Scott Tuke is represented not with a characteristic painting of nude young men by the seashore but by one of his shipboard paintings. Edwin Henry Landseers dogs and stags were everywhere in his day via framed prints in many houses; he painted most of Queen Victoria's dogs as well. The rest are a group of social realists, who were mostly dedicated to painting scenes of everyday life, usually in the country, a reaction to centuries of painting only heroes, gods and goddesses, Biblical scenes and the Aristocracy.
The calendar unfolds to two 12" x 12" panels, the top with the painting and the bottom with the months. The reproductions look very good with good color and detail. There is every imaginable holiday and observance listed with the dates.
Nice Art, Good price, Good quality. I will frame several of the pages.
This is my 2nd Tate wall calendar and I have to say that this one did not meet expectations. The colors seem off, too green and dingy, on many of the prints. They may in fact be perfect reproductions, but it's hard to tell from the tiny on-line pictures one has to go on.
